Arts and Culture Club

Description: Participants will create art that incorporates literature, writing, science, history and math connections.  Participants will choose a theme of their interest; themes may range from modern to contemporary art. Methods include drawing, painting, sculpturing and constructing.  Lessons will be facilitated in group or independent work.  The outcome of art class participants discovers arts as a form of expression and communication.

Grades 6th-8th

College Readiness

Description: Students will build Post Secondary Readiness by conducting research on four colleges finding information on their academic offerings, tuition, student life, and athletics. Students will take this knowledge and create poster boards, school spirit designs, step, dance, and chants on their assigned college and participate in a College Bowl at the end of the month of March.

Dance Club

Description: Participants will partake in Dance a combination of various movements. Dances taught may include:  swing, waltz, merengue, salsa, tango, rumba, salsa, bachata, modern, line or pattern dances. Dance incorporates both Music Education and Physical Education at the same time and teaches social etiquette including trust, communication, respect and manners. Participants will choose the type of music they would like to dance to and upon the completion of the program culminates with participants performing for parents or a dance competition between classrooms. In Dance Club Participants will discover team building, promote healthy physical and social development.

Film Club

Description: The Film Club will focus on teaching movies, short film, and documentaries as visual narratives. Participants will analyze and study all of the language systems of film (photography, editing, sound, acting, story, writing, ideology, etc.). Participants will better understand how movies are constructed and comprehend the criteria necessary to make a film. Participants will learn film history course and a genre study course. Participants will have option choose what type of film to direct and upon completion students will debut their film to the program and parents.

Description: Participants will engage in a wide range of recreational activities such as sports, board games, dance, and arts and crafts.

Game Quiz Club

Description: From September to December Game Zone participants will recreate famous game shows (Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, Who Wants to Be A Millionaire, etc.) Participants will be divided in to team and each week participants will compete with one another.  Starting January each team will create their own version of a game/quiz show using PowerPoint image slideshows with questions, images and actions. Focusing on educational topics (Literature, Art, Math, Science, Technology, History etc).Participants will learn to communicate appropriately and effectively while working with teammates.  Participants will harness the benefit of technology by using PowerPoint and a Smart board.

Health Fit Club

Description: The purpose of this club is to have participants discover healthy lifestyle behaviors. Each lesson includes interactive nutrition activities, food preparation, active games, and a goal setting challenge. Participants will also develop basic-level knowledge of aerobic activities and fitness and to maintain or improve a level of fitness. The healthy Fit Club promotes nutrition and healthy  physical development.

Description: Provides participants with the opportunity to obtain assistance with homework and practice basic skills.

Karate

Description: Karate will provide participants with self-confidence, conflict resolution and verbal and physical self-defense approaches. Participants will be learning awareness safety and self-defense. Karate will help participants to keep a positive attitude, keeping participants motivated and thinking about progress and goals. Participants will gain self-confidence, leading better performance in sports and in extracurricular activities in general..

Next Big Thing: Project Based Learning (PBL)

Description: This activity will encourage participants to make their ideas into reality.  Participants will be creating a business plan as a learning activity at all level of education incorporating STEM for the next big technology product. Participants will need to analyze finances to start and support their product and create a marketing strategy for their business. The program will have a showcase for participants to show their entrepreneurial abilities. Participants will have real life opportunity to practice business planning, decision making and communication skills that will help them discover their personal dreams and goals.

Photography Club

Description: Participants will learn the History of photography. Participants will discover how historical photography is connected to their life. Participants will compare historical and contemporary photography and discuss the connection between both photos. They will interpret the photo and recreating their own photo with a similar interpretation. This class will broaden their interest in photography and will build their visual skills. Participants will have hand on lessons every session, taking photographs of their surrounding objects. This club will bring out the innate creativity of the participant, builds their interpretative and technical skills, and enhances their understanding of the power of photography to communicate their perspectives of the world.
